In accordance with the Islamic commandments of peace and justice in the family and recognizing our community responsibility as directed by the Qur’an, MSS focuses on bringing programs to the community that enhance their understanding about Domestic Violence as well as provides support to individuals and spouses that are victims of Domestic Violence.

The Safer Families Project raises awareness about issues of abuse and violence, especially family violence and other related issues of honour and shame. This program aims to eradicate domestic violence through culturally and spiritually sensitive education programs as well as supporting women and children who have experienced violence, abuse, and trauma.

MSS brings together a team of Muslim social workers, imams, community leaders, professionals and other community workers from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, all working together to eradicate oppression and violence in families. This team is a resource for other local agencies involved in addressing family violence.

MSS also provides community organizations— such as counselling agencies, the police and advocates with tools and knowledge they need to understand their Muslim clients and accommodate their religious and cultural issues related to abuse of any form.
